Wu Tang anyone?
Actually, the title has to do more with the Leatt brand of protective equipment; Jason Britton’s STX signature brace in particular.
If you’re familiar with Jason Britton, then you know the stunt rider, TV personality, Hollywood stuntman, and MMA fighter is really, really good on a motorcycle. His antics have brought the Icon brand to another level and have probably done more for that clothing company than all of the crazy stuff they’ve done before he appeared on the scene.

We wondered why Britton was an ambassador for the product, but after reading the 2012 Leatt catalog, we now understand! Yeah, I’ve met him a couple of times but I can’t claim to personally know Britton. So, why was it surprising to find out that in his line of work, he had broken his neck, twice? According to the copy in the image below, he’s suffered nerved damage, numbness in his limbs and a loss of taste and smell! So, for him to advocate the use of protective gear like this, makes a lot of sense.
Now, backing up for a second, i realize that you may not be familiar with Leatt or the neck brace that has earned them fame.
The short story goes that Dr. Leatt and his team, based in Cape Town, are crazy about saving folks from experiencing moto-related neck injuries. They developed the brace after lots of R&D and with it’s Alternate Load Path Technology, have figured out affordable way to take impact energy and move it away from the neck of the rider. Good stuff.
Since hitting the scene, Leatt has won numerous awards for their line of protective neck braces:
Dirt Bike Magazine’s Product of the Year in 2009
Freeride Magazine’s Innovations Award winner in 2009
Motocross Action’s Most Significaant product in 2009
Racer X’s Best Product of the Decade award in 2009
Transworld Motocross’ Editor’s Choice award for best new product in 2009
SAMIA’s Oustanding Safety Achievement in 2009
Brandnew Awards’ Best Protection award at Bike Expo 2010
Up until recently, the Leatt line of braces was only available for off-road guys. Now, we have the SNX for snowmobilers and of course, the STX for the road-going guys.
